How to apply a diamond coating?
In my chemistry textbook it says there is a way to apply a diamond coating ultra-high to any surface. It says everything you need to do is get hydrogen (H2) and methane (CH4) and mix together, dip the thing you want to coat in the mixture, then use a microwave as energy source, and the result is a thin diamond coating. Any assistance, advice or ideas? I want to put diamond coating on the blade of my hockey stick, I went through about 3 a week. No idea where buy gas?
I have not heard of making diamond coatings using methane and hydrogen. Applying a diamond coating to all sorts of everyday objects is certainly a good idea. The reason why we can not go out and buy diamond sticks Hockey or shovels or knives or other items is cost. Not because the raw materials are particularly expensive, the process to do is tricky. The technical application of diamond coatings generally involve very high pressures or high temperatures, around 1000 ° C (or both). It's hot enough to make your hockey stick spontaneously combust. It would not surprise me to see appear coatings on such objects more every day in the next 15-20 years, the technology becomes cheaper.
